MDL AUSTRALIA will showcase scanners for underground mining operations at the 2008 Goldfields Mining Expo (GME) in October 2008.
The VS150 3D laser scanner and Cavity Auto Laser Scanning (C-ALS) system will be featured at the event in Kalgoorlie from 24 October 2008.
According to the company, the VS150 measures voids, stopes and rock faces in environments where access is difficult, such as underground coal mining operations.
The product uses conventional survey tripods and may be operated by remote control when fitted to rods, lifts and cranes.
The two-axis-motorised unit is said to be easily transportable, weighing in at five kilograms. It is able to scan up to 200 points per second and store data on PDAs or laptops.
The C-ALS cavity monitoring system is a self-navigating, robotic probe that enters and surveys dry or abandoned mines. The unit can enter boreholes of 65mm or more, and uses a mini-laser-scanner to measure the cavity in 3D.
