BUCYRUS has announced the introduction of the newest addition to its stable of EDGE Technology products, the LatchFree Dipper System for Bucyrus mining shovels used in the coal industry.
Bucyrus says its patented LatchFree Dipper System replaces the standard latch assembly — the number one cause for unplanned maintenance and shovel downtime — resulting in lower maintenance costs, improved reliability, and greater productivity.
Since the inception of the electric mining shovel, the standard latch assembly has been a costly, albeit unavoidable, nuisance for mine operators.
Bucyrus claims the LatchFree Dipper System offers a number of advantages over the standard latch assembly; advantages that will have a direct and positive impact on the bottom line for LatchFree Dipper owners.
The system replaces the latch assembly with a strong steel link, which is positioned on the dipper back. This means the vital holding and closing components of the unit are not subject to the harsh conditions of the lower dipper door. Exposure to material flow and threats of ground, haul truck, or in-pit hopper/feeder strikes are no longer an issue.
