PARLIAMENTARY Secretary for Climate Change Greg Combet says that coal mining companies are in line for $750 million in compensation under Labor's scheme but are not going to receive additional assistance.
Combet met with the industry's leaders in Canberra on 15 May 2009 to discuss the practical way in which the carbon pollution reduction scheme (CPRS) would operate in the coal industry.
The coal mining industry has warned of job losses if it is not treated as an emissions-intensive trade-exposed industry, which will offer additional funding.
The Australian Greens say the government should back its call to train workers for jobs in sustainable "sunrise industries" if CPRS will create a jobs crash in coal communities.
