Xstrata Coal rejects “job security clause”

MINE workers strike action seems to have been in vain with Xstrata Coal announcing it will not include a job security clause in a new Enterprise Agreement for miners at United Colleries.

Over 100 miners undertook four days of strike action in a fight for job security, higher rates of pay, bonuses and redundancy payments.

But the mining company says it cannot make such guarantees because it is not certain the mine will be there in the future.

Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Mining Union says the company is only thinking of the short term greed.
