A GROUP of teenagers from Mackay, Mackay North, Mirani, Pioneer and Sarina state high schools have visited BMA's Hay Point coal terminal as part of the Try A Trade training program.

Education Queensland trades centre operator Bob Baker claims the industry tour component of the program has greatly enriched the program experience for students.

The 10-week program offers students an insight into what could be their future professions while also offering a potential solution for the region's skills shortage.

The program, which is part of the Manufacturing and Engineering Gateways Schools, began last month and will continue until 18 September 2009.
