THE 2009 Queensland Resources Expo (QREX) Trade Exhibition which will be held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds from 21 and 23 July 2009 will showcase many new products suitable for use in the coal mining industry.
Organisers say that despite the global economic uncertainty, big and small suppliers are using the event to showcase new products to the Queensland market. More than 150 exhibitors have been contracted for QREX.
While the Trade Exhibition is a central part of QREX, the event also incorporates international and regional conferences, as well as tours to mines, processing plants and research centres.Companies that will use QREX to highlight new offerings, include:
• Caterpillar dealer Hastings Deering will use the event to showcase several new models in Cat’s Compact Construction Equipment (CCE) range of equipment.
• Pioneer Drilling, which will unveil new additions to its fleet of BMA mine-compliant drilling rigs.• Hytorc Queensland, which will demonstrate the world’s first hydraulic torque and tension wrench without a reaction arm.
• Amare Safety, which will demonstrate a new emergency first aid washing solution for treating chemical splashes to skin and eyes, and hearing protection for high noise environments.
• Capability Resources, which will introduce a new welding safety device.
Reed Exhibitions’ exhibition manager for Reed Mining Events, Soren Norgaard says that despite the decline in the mining sector, recently it has become evident that China’s economy — and demand for Australia’s resources — is proving to be substantially more resilient than it had been given credit for.
Norgaard says that resources prices are starting to move back up, credit markets are opening up so that finance is again becoming easier to obtain, and Australia’s — and Queensland’s — resources sectors are beginning to feel significantly more optimistic about the future.
QREX will be a great chance for those from the Central Queensland resources and engineering sector to meet with suppliers and compare products and services. In addition to the companies already mentioned, other notable companies exhibiting at QREX include Blackwoods, Cat Rental, Genie, Minecorp, Offroad Trucks, Reliance Petroleum, RS Components, Terex and Toyota Materials Handling.
There are two industry conferences at QREX.The International Industry Conference will take place on Monday July 20 (the day before the QREX Trade Exhibition opens).
This conference will address the issues that are facing Australia and the global resources community over the coming year, and will confront the many challenges facing the global community, including energy security, diversity and the outlook for a low carbon future.
The Australian Resources Conference will take place on Friday July 24 (the day after the Trade Exhibition closes) and will focus on the future of Queensland and Australia’s resources sector.
It will highlight the strong resource industry growth of the 21st century and what is necessary to continue this growth, particularly in light of rapid transformation of the coal seam gas industry.
The Q150 QREX Lunch, immediately following the Australian Resources Conference, will be an opportunity to celebrate the state’s rich history and contribution to the Australian resources industry in the company of specially invited VIPs from the region, from Queensland, and from the industry.
Another major element of QREX will be the Industry Tour Program, departing daily from the Rockhampton Showgrounds between Tuesday July 21 and Thursday July 23.
Lead by industry experts, the tours will visit regional hotspots and will offer participants further insights into the issues and industry discussed in the conferences and on display at the QREX Trade Exhibition.
Tours include:
• The state-of-the-art Blackwater International Coal Centre, to view the rehabilitation processes undertaken by the Department of Mines and Energy at the Mount Morgan Gold Mine
• CQUniversity’s Centre for Railway Engineering
• Stanwell Power Station, a major Queensland energy supplier with strong environmental and social commitments
• QMAG Magnesia Mine & Processing Plant, one of the world's largest producers of high quality deadburned, electrofused and calcined magnesia
