QRC says coal seam gas is the next big thing for the resources sector

QUEENSLAND Resources Council (QRC) Chief Executive Michael Roche says coal-seam gas (CSG) and CSG to LNG is the next big thing for the resources sector.

Roche’s claim follows news that the Laird Point site on Curtis Island in the Port of Gladstone has been secured by Australia Pacific LNG for its proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant.

The project, a joint venture of Origin Energy and Conoco Phillips would bring royalty income and a significant number of jobs to the region as well as help open up a huge new energy resource, which would benefit the Queensland and national economies.

The QRC says while the coal-seam gas (CSG) and CSG to LNG is an industry that was practically unknown a decade ago, it’s one that is set to join the coal industry as a major export earner for Queensland over the next decade.
