Oaky Creek No 1 mine reopened

XSTRATA says that it is reopening the Oaky Creek No 1 mine in Tieri, Queensland in August 2009.

Xstrata spokesman James Rickards says the decision has been made in response to the securing of spot sales for prime hard coking coal.

The mine will be in production from August through to the end of the 2009 and then the company will reassess the market and opportunities available.

The mine was closed in January 2009 and 190 contractors and 40 permanent staff were sacked from the operation.

Xstrata says a contract labour force would be imported to start work on the mine site.
