Newly formed coal mining sticker club hopes miners stick to it

JOY Sticker Club International President Shane Lewry says sticker collecting is a hugely popular hobby in the coal mining industry and has been for many years.

Lewy says “colliery stickers (or pit stickers) and related Industry trade stickers, are almost like currency in a lot of coal mines throughout Australia. If you do not have stickers when you go onsite, you don't get anywhere!”

JOY Sticker Club International is a non profit organisation dedicated to collecting and preserving JOY Mining Machinery stickers. Lewry founded the club after many months of negotiations with the mining giant JOY Mining Machinery in January 2009.

The club relies heavily on fundraising and sponsorship but is yet to receive such support. Lewry says that the club has already signed up some of the biggest JOY sticker collectors in the world, some from both Australia and the United States with over 2000 individual JOY stickers.

  • I have a rather large collection of mining stickers mainly Australian based mines and equipment which i was looking to off load. Can you let me know where would be the best place to list them. I'm talking 600+ stickers, many from early to mid eighties.
