New coal mine creates new hope for job seekers

A PROPOSED coal mine in the Bowen Basin has sparked hope for job seekers that have been sent rock bottom due to the declining global economy and subsequent slowdown in the mining sector.

The coal mine, known as the Caval Ridge project, would be a 50-50 joint venture between BHP Billiton and Mitsubishi Development, managed by BMA.

BHP Billiton says the Caval Ridge Project would create 500 jobs during operation and up to 1200 during construction.

The Queensland Government is yet to approve the mine’s environmental impact statement.

The first coal is expected to be produced from the Caval Ridge project in 2013.
