Mining versus agriculture: FutureFood says mine-d your step

A QUEENSLAND group has formed to protect the state’s prime agricultural land from mine exploitation.

The 'FutureFood Queensland' initiative will be officially launched at a Rural Press club luncheon meeting in Brisbane on 13 February 2009.

The party claims it is not an anti-mining group it simply aims to strike a balance between mining and food production capability.

FutureFood claims it simply defies logic to permanently destroy a farm capable of producing premium food for thousands of years into the future to allow for 20 years of coal mining.

The group says it wants to see political parties such as Environmental and Landcare groups who claim to be concerned about the impact of inappropriate mining in Queensland, to introduce a proper planning process.
