Mining towns lack services for explorers

Waratah Coal is pushing for government assistance for mining towns to be extended to cover areas affected by exploration.

The company is planning a $5bn coal development in the Galilee Basin near the central Queensland town of Alpha.

However, Waratah says the town does not have a doctor and its lack of services are of concern to exploration teams.

The mining company has established a nearby camp to accommodate its workers, and says it will pursue the issues with state government.
