Former Rio Tinto Exec wins AusIMM mining award

QANTAS Chairman and former Rio Tinto Chief Executive Leigh Clifford has been awarded the highest honour in the annual awards conferred by The AustralasianInstitute of Mining and Metallurgy (The AusIMM).

Clifford receives the Institute Medal for his outstanding leadership of the minerals industry globally through his service with the CRA/Rio Tinto group, the active promotion of professional development, the advancement of indigenous employment and the recognition of the importance of sustainable development.

He will receive the award at The AusIMM’s Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation on 5 July 2009 at the Sofitel Gold Coast, Queensland.

The Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation will be followed by the 2009 Sustainable Development Indicators in Mining Conference of, which will be held between 6 and 7 July 2009.

The AusIMM Awards are a highlight of the minerals industry calendar, recognising outstanding contributions by individual professionals to their industry and community since 1935.
