Felix Resources delay construction of NSW coal mine

AUSTRALIAN coal producer Felix Resources has delayed construction of its Moolarben coal mine after Xstrata won an appeal over mining leases.

Xstrata is challenging the validity of Felix's mining lease, which was approved by the New South Wales government in September 2007.

The coal producer had planned to start construction early August 2008, but won’t start until it receives final court orders in the dispute.

The Moolarben mine, 40km northeast of Mudgee in New South Wales, will provide an estimated 10Mt of power-station coal per year for up to 21 years.
