CSIRO releases brochure on carbon dioxide injection

THE CSIRO has released a brochure on the benefits and capabilities of its CO2Well model which predicts carbon dioxide flow in injection wells for the subsurface storage of carbon dioxide.

The groups Petroleum Resources department says the CO2Well estimates the well bottomhole pressure which is essential for predicting injection rate.

The carbon dioxide phase, whether gas, liquid or supercritical, is determined by pressure and temperature and could vary with depth down the well.

During geological storage, carbon dioxide is likely to be in a dense state and its weight could make a significant contribution to the well's bottomhole pressure and therefore the carbon dioxide injection rate.

Additionally, the brochure shows examples calculations for carbon dioxide injection.
