Coal mine strike

Coal mine strike

Miners at the Tahmoor colliery went on strike Friday over disagreements with operator Xstrata Coal.

The workers came together in Picton due to what they claim is Xstrata’s failure to negotiate on enterprise agreements.

The miner’s union claimed Xstrata is trying to force them from their current agreements back on to award conditions.

“We're only asking that we retain current conditions and that we be able to have an agreement with the rest of the mine's on the south-western districts,” the mining union district vice president Bob Timms said according to the ABC.

The miners have declared that they will continue industrial action.
