Bligh backs retrenched coal miners

RETRENCHED coal miners are hopeful that the Queensland Government’s fast-tracked infrastructure projects will provide work to those that have lost their jobs.

Premier Anna Bligh says the State Government will help find sacked workers employment.

The government is planning to develop infrastructure in the Bowen Basin, such as the northern missing link rail project and certain other port projects.

This reassurance follows mining company BMA’s confirmation that 400 contractor positions would be lost from its Goonyella and Norwich Park mines.

Bligh says unfortunately another Queensland employer is suffering the consequences of the meltdown in the world markets.
