13.5km conveyor system to transport German coal

SIEMENS will connect a coal mine and power station with a 13.5km long belt conveyor system in Germany’s Saxony region.

The project, set to commence mid-2010, will transport raw brown coal from an open-cast mine to a nearby power station.

The operation involves six conveyor belts, measuring 2,000mm in width, and will deliver approximately 6,600t per hour.

The conveyor system will be distributed between three drive stations, delivering a total drive power of 19,350 kilowatts.

Siemens will engineer, manufacture and deliver equipment for the project.
